Les sœurs Boulay

Stéphanie and Mélanie Boulay - by far this blog's favourite siblings - are back with a brand new song (their first since last year's haunting ballad "Ça").

"Fais-moi un show de boucane" ('un show de boucane' - literally a 'smoke show' - where spotty-faced adolescents gather to create burnouts by smoking the tyres of their cars) is not only a teaser for the sisters' new album - due this autumn - but also hints at a more expansive sound.

While the sisters' majestic vocal harmonies shine - like a beacon - throughout, here there's solid percussion, horns and added 'electrical things'. This is a song all about being a teenager, indestructible, carefree and in love. It also marks a departure from the girls' gentle country-folk melodies. This is bold, brash, with a strong rock undercurrent and - let's be honest - just a little bit sexy.

This, Ladies and Gentlemen, is rather good...
