Jennie Vee

I wrote a blog piece about the incredibly talented Jennie Vee back in January after having been blown away by her debut EP "Die Alone" and then falling hopelessly in love with the  gorgeous Bunnyman-influenced "Never let you down." I pointed out that those of us who know a good thing when we hear it had also received a very nice Christmas pressie in the shape of the most shoegazey of interpretations of Echo and the Bunnymen's "Lips like sugar", complete with lashings of multi-layered guitars and multi-tracked vocals...

And now you lucky people, Jennie has released "Lips like sugar" to the world at large via Bandcamp.  Arguably one of the best Bunnymen covers I've ever heard, the song is available on a 'Name your price' basis - so go on - spare a dollar or two (US or Canadian), a couple of quid, Euros or even a Swiss Francs (think I've covered most of my hunting grounds there). Trust me, your ears will thank me...

There's even a real cool video shot by Katrin Albert which features Jennie ably backed by Blaise Dahl (of the wonderful Dahl Haus - hopefully a record soon - just sayin') on bass, guitarist Briana Alexander and Elvira Gonzalez (ex-Silversun Pickups) hammering the crap out of the drums - all four girls glammed-up in Courtney Love designed creations. Check it out below.

Having recently opened for the Manic Street Preachers on the East Coast Leg of the "Holy Bible" tour (and spotted in the crowd at their storming gig at The Fonda on Hollywood), Jennie is now touring with Ms. Love herself on Lana Del Ray's "Endless Summer" Tour. I was seriously tempted myself - but the Hollywood Bowl gig is a scum-sucking scalper's paradise - may be next time, when Jennie's promoting her brand new record, "Spying", due out later this year...
