Laurence Nerbonne

If the name and face ring a few bells, they should. Laurence Nerbonne, artist, vocalist and violinist with Montréal's alt-rockers Hôtel Morphée - a band who broke the heart of this blogger when they split earlier this year, just months after releasing in "Rêve Américain" one of 2014's most innovative albums - is  back with a song that could quite conceivably be this year's summer hit in la belle province…

"Rêves d'été", while borrowing from the more electro-rock themes of "Rêve Américain", is most definitely a full-out and totally uncompromising cent pour cent uptempo electro-pop song. Out go the guitars, drums and orchestral strings, replaced by layer upon layer of synths and beats that create a ridiculous addictive melody that - trust me - burrows deep into your consciousness and which you'll find yourself whistling at every opportunity. And then there's Laurence's distinctive and disarmingly seductive, rasping vocals; here - echoed and multi-tracked - a harmonious choir to announce and celebrate the arrival of summer.

Written and composed by Laurence - who revelled not only in the opportunity to have total artistic control but also empowering more women to become involved with all aspects of the music industry - and produced by long-time Hôtel Morphée producer Philippe Brault,  "Rêves d'été" is a song full of hope and of renewing afresh; "…Summer dreams in our heads, Erases our storms, Come with me,  We can do what we want…"

It's a song that should be the summer anthem across the world, never mind just Québec…
