Laura Sauvage

Do you realise that if you placed all the records that I've been meaning to buy and write about end-to-end - or in reality their digital download equivalents - they'd by now probably fill a medium-sized data storage facility. Plus I'd seriously be in need of a payday loan… But I digress, there is seriously a shed load of really great music out there.

Laura Savage is the rockier alter (and alternative) ego of Vivianne Roy,  one-third of my favourite banjo-twanging, ukulele-strummin' , Chiac-parlezing, cowpunking trio; Moncton's favourite daughters, Les Hay Babies. Eschewing these accoutrements,  she plugs in her guitar for her debut single "You've changed" on Simone Records (home of Les Babies) to create the most addictive of guitar-laden rock-goodness that serves as a teaser for her debut solo album due out later this autumn.

With Laura, Dany Placard (who also plays bass, engineered and co-produced the single) and Emmanuel Ethier all contributing to the multi-textural waves of guitar that crash all over this record,  Mathieu Vezio powering the metronomic drum-beat that serves as the song's engine, Ben Bouchard's keyboards, wryly observational lyrics and a gorgeous progression during the chorus - all topped by Laura / Vivianne's distinctive (add English to French and Chiac) vocals - what's not to like here?
