A New Dawn

I awoke this morning to the news that Margaret Hilda Thatcher had died.

For those who didn't live through the 11 years as Prime Minister and the further 7 years that her stooges implemented her legacy, it's perhaps difficult to convey the sheer misery and desperation that her divisive and destructive policies had on working communities the length and breadth of the UK.

Even now, the revisionist history, glowing in the tributes to her "achievements" are being broadcast around the world. Here in Ventura County, home to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum, the eulogies are already pouring in, politicians falling over themselves to praise her as a great world leader (and by extension casting a reflective glow on a certain Hollywood actor who hold the highest office).

I was struggling to put down my thoughts on paper, without sounding gloating or vitriolic, but then I came across JC's excellent post in The Vinyl Villain  which neatly encapsulates my feelings far more eloquently than I could possibly ever articulate.

Great leaders, Statesmen (and women), ultimately unite a country, not divide it. Suffice to say that in this far flung outpost of the Empire, she won't be missed...
